Moratorium on evictions extended to March 2022

The Government announcement last night that the ban on evicting tenants from commercial premises, which was due to expire at the end of this month, will now be extended until 25 March 2022 has been met with incredulity from several industry bodies and landlords.

Whilst the retailers and other tenant associations have welcomed the news, many argue that this support should be coming from Government.  I'm not aware of any other industry being asked (nay, expected) to prop up another as a result of the pandemic.  Who will support the Landlords when they start to fail, make redundancies and halt valuable investment into the improvement of our built environment?

Senior property industry figures have described government plans to extend the commercial property eviction moratorium to 25 March 2022 as “crazy”
