Today we recognise the one day in the year when the world voices its opposition to elder abuse and to enhance the recognition of the dignity of older persons. The global population of people aged 60 years and older will more than double, from 900 million in 2015 to about 2 billion in 2050. We should not be slow to recognise the contribution of older people to society. However, surveys show that elder abuse affects one in six older adults worldwide. We all have a part to play in identifying abuse when we see it and to help older people to understand it is not normal behaviour and that there is advice available. We have a team at Wedlake Bell who have the skills and experience to both prevent financial abuse from happening and to resolve problems when they arise.
